The United Nations Economic Commission for Europe's (UNECE) 'Standards for the SDGs' is a side session to the 41st International Organization for Standardization (ISO) General Assembly (GA). The event will bring together representatives of the standards community, UN agencies, corporate entities, diplomats, and national policymakers on 26 September 2018 in Geneva, Switzerland. This multistakeholder engagement will showcase the role of standards in achieving the UN sustainable development goals (SDGs).

With an interactive programme including panels and breakout sessions, the event will present practical approaches for standards users, and examine four SDGs in detail: SDG 6, clean water and sanitation; SDG 7, affordable and clean energy; SDG 11, sustainable cities and communities; and SDG 13, climate action.

Participants will discuss case studies in which the practical application of standards to the 2030 Agenda can be observed. The case studies will highlight the innovation that underpins standards, and focus on how global policymakers have implemented standards for the SDGs.
