The Conference on Disarmament (CD) was recognised by the Tenth Special Session on Disarmament of the United Nations General Assembly (SSOD-I) in 1978 as a single multilateral disarmament forum for the international community.
The CD’s 2023 session will adopt annual reports on the implementation of the treaties and discuss relevant topics, such as the emergence of new types of weapons systems that may cause mass destruction.
The CD and its predecessors were responsible for several major multilateral disarmament treaties, such as the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), the Biological Weapons Convention (BWC), and the Chemical Weapons Convention (CWC).
